| SUMMARY PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB POSITION Manages the day to day nursing operations on the skilled/rehab unit including coordination of resident care, supervision of the professional team including unit managers and charge nurses, administrative and budget management, and ensures that professional standards of care are maintained. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess a current, unencumbered RN/LPN license in this state. At least two years experience in a supervisory capacity in health care. Understand of PPS and RAI system. Must be able to write the English language in an understandable manner. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government personnel, and the general public. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical procedures, as well as, state and federal laws that pertain to long-term care. Must possess leadership and supervisory willingness to work harmoniously with professional personnel. IV certification preferred ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Direct the functions of the nursing unit(s) in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care. Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating our written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department. Ensure that all nursing procedures are followed in accordance with facility protocol and safe nursing practice. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PERSONNEL FUNCTIONS Ensure that a sufficient number of nursing assistants are available to provide the routine care needed to meet the daily nursing care requirements of each resident. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status. Consult with DON in all matters regarding discipline Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter- department personnel, as well as, other departments within the facility to assure that nursing services and other disciplines can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as, a calm environment throughout the unit. Must attend mandatory in-services, unless a valid written excuse is given to the Director of Nursing, but must also make arrangements with DON to obtain the information. Meet with your staff regularly to assure all members are updated regarding resident care, assignment changes and any information which helps promote the highest quality of care. Perform employee evaluations and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing concerning employee dismissals, transfers, etc. JOB FUNCTIONS Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Manages the MDS process for Medicare residents. Participates as a member of the Medicare meeting. Manages the IDT meetings for the skilled services. Provides and supervises direct resident care and assessment. Trains and educates physicians and nursing staff as appropriate in clinical procedures. Makes recommendations for in-service training programs. Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the department. Monitors nursing documentation and assists in the investigation of incidences and medication errors. Ensures that all the documentation and assessments are completed for the MDS process. |
