This client is a state of the art health care facility with both long-term care and skilled rehabilitation services. We have a very active 26 bed rehab unit and a 55 bed long term care unit. We are currently seeking a Director of Nursing with experience to lead our nursing department.

Job Description/Summary Purpose
The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize and carry out nursing services, including the orientation and instruction of nursing personnel, to assure that quality care is provided to the residents in an atmosphere that is safe, clean, and comfortable, and to assure that all residents shall achieve their maximum potential on a 24 hour basis.

Essential Functions
Direct the functions of the nursing department in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care. Develop, maintain, and update written policies and procedures that govern the day to day functions of the nursing department. Ensure that all nursing procedures are followed in accordance with facility protocol and safe nursing practice.

Personnel Functions
1. Ensure that a sufficient number of nursing personnel are available to provide the routine care needed to meet the daily nursing care requirements of each resident.
2. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, handicap, or marital status.
3. Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to assure that nursing services and other disciplines can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
4. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit.
5. Meet with your staff regularly to assure all members are updated regarding resident care, assignment changes, and any information which helps promote the highest quality of care.

Job Functions
a. Responsible for the hiring and supervising of all nursing personnel.
b. Review medical records for appropriate use of skilled services.
c. Maintain budget and control of the nursing department. Approve medical and nursing supplies and seminars for nursing staff.
d. Develop job descriptions and delegation of duties to all nursing personnel.
e. Plan, organize and direct effective administration of each nursing unit based on objectives, standards, and policies.
f. Review resident incident reports for completeness. Investigate when required.
g. Responsible for compliance with facility policies and procedures. Responsible to become knowledgeable of State and Federal regulations.
h. Responsible for coaching nursing staff on disciplinary action/termination when work performance warrants.
i. Liaison between nursing facility and Medical Director and other health care professionals.
j. Responsible for collaborating with other departments.
k. Establish and maintain the availability of R.N. supervisory level coverage 24 hours per day for emergency situations.
l. Meet with unit managers and charge nurses at regular intervals to discuss health care and facility issues pertinent to residents' needs.

Minimum Requirements
-Must posses a current, unencumbered RN license in the state of Maine (NH cert is transferable).
-At least three years experience in a supervisory capacity in a health care organization.
-Must have up to date knowledge of Medicare reimbursement.
-Ability to organize, plan and supervise nursing services.
-Ability to maintain a budget.
-Available to be on call as requested.
